Our 7 - 9 Year Olds ...

We currently cater for up to 50 children between the ages of 7 and 9 in our two Lower Primary groups.

In this Conscious Mind period, children continue an active exploration of the world around them, using and consolidating the habits of work and social conduct established in the Pre-Primary years.

Here the children examine the "big picture", the world and their place in it.  They  begin with a study of the universe and life on earth through zoology, botany, biology, geology, astronomy, geography, history, etc.

The interdependence of all life, and of all humans, is a focus of Montessori education.  Through study of the fundamental needs of all humans, consciousness of the shared nature of humanity as well as of the diverse expressions of that nature is developed.

Children are encouraged and assisted to undertake more detailed exploration of areas of interest with a more research-based approach.  Excursions and incursions are organised to bring the world to the attention of the children.

Through the use of unique Montessori materials children expand their understanding of language with grammar and sentence analysis.  Other language and mathematics work continues, increasingly moving from concrete expression and the use of Montessori apparatus to more abstract work.

Daily life activities are similar, but more extended for this age group, with a focus on recycling and environmental issues.
