Lower Secondary School: Year 8 - Year 10

The focus for these adolescent students is on the development of the personality, on moral and social development and their preparation for participation in society as future adults through both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

The lower secondary group has up to 30 students with generalist teachers assisted by specialist teachers in certain subject areas such as English, Mathematics, Art and Chemistry.

Students combine academic study with practical work.  They continue to work at their own pace and interests and have the guidance and assistance of their teacher to devise an academic program.  This is combined with timetabled group lessons and the opportunity for co-operative and self-directed work.

Students work by cleaning the school's floors after school hours.  The school pays the group for this collective effort and the money is used to finance annual camps for the lower secondary group and one overseas trip for all Year 11 students every two years.

Students also participate in tree-growing and tree-planting  each year and also work on local projects in the Yellagonga Regional Park.

Environmental and direct social contributions to immediate, local and global areas of concern are vital to the adolescent development.  Their finely-honed sense of justice takes a wide focus as global issues, such as climate change, poverty, injustice demand their action.

Secondary students participate in all areas of school life, contributing their time, energy and creativity.  Each year they produce a Shakespearean play for the school community and this has become a most eagerly anticipated event.
