Our 10 - 12 Year Olds ...

These two groups cater for up to 50 children from 10 to 12 years of age, all working to develop themselves socially, physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually, which makes for a lively environment.  As these children learn to behave socially in a conscious way, they need to give energy to shared as well as individual activities.

Social awareness, both the harmonious functioning of their own group and their place in the world as a whole, is a major focus of development.  Purposeful activities, contributing to their own and to the world's social group, develop both their inner faculties and their consciousness of others in the world

Engagement in intelligent physical work, both as a group and individually, allows the children to exercise their muscles, work towards a purpose, plan, design, test out, and also to organise themselves for a common purpose.  Examples are the construction and maintenance of their garden area, the installation of a frog habitat or the spreading of sand for play equipment for all to use.

More conceptual exploration of the environment is involved also for these children as they move to a more language-based learning, reading, writing, thinking, discussing and questioning.  This continues to be organised so the children know what to take, complete and pack away, just as they have throughout the Montessori School.
