DESCRIPTION:It was not simply a single child but rather many who showed this same surprising ability. They obviously had a special sensitivity for words and were ravenous in their desire to master the written language.” – Maria Montessori\, The Discovery of the Child \n  \nChildren are born into language – interacting\, communicating\, speaking and listening with their loved ones and later with the world around them.\nAlthough physical and oral expression are natural phenomena common to all humans\, the learning of written language – reading and writing – is something that needs to be taught and structured. Montessori as in all areas seeks to follow the child and there is much indirect preparation before a child is ever asked to write with a pencil. Following the child’s natural explosion into written language\, the sounds and manipulations of English language are then given structure and skills are progressively developed. The child is provided with concrete building blocks they can use to express and share ideas with others. But the instruction of reading and writing can be disputed in Australian schools\, so why do we teach it the way we do? What are the steps for a child to learn to read and write? What can you do at home to support their learning? What if they are having difficulties with learning to read and write? \nPlease join us for a materials display and presentation on the Montessori phonetic approach to reading and writing\, and a discussion of what parents can do at home to support early literacy skills.

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our Open House!\nThis event is for people interested to learn about the Montessori method\, for families considering Montessori as the education path for their children\, as well as for our current families who are curious about what the rest of the school looks like.\nVisiting our school is the best way to get a feel for our community and culture\, and to find out more about the Montessori philosophy. \nProgram\nDuring our Open House\, you will get the chance to visit our school and discover our primary learning environments (ages 3 to 12)\, our secondary learning environments (ages 12-15)\, as well as International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (ages 16-18). \nIn addition to moving freely around our prepared environment\, you’ll be able to see a short presentation on all our sections: \n\n9am – Arrival and Sign In\n9:15am – Primary Presentation\n10am – Secondary/International Baccalaureate Presentation\n\nRSVP\nIf you are keen to attend\, please register your interest by 2pm on Friday\, 19 May.\nYou can either email via the link below or phone us on (08) 9409 9151. \nWe look forward to seeing you! \nRSVP

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of cultural immersion\, music\, fun\, and food!\nAkwaaba (“uh-kwaa-buh”)…meaning “welcome” in the Akan language from Ghana\, Akwaaba’s vision is to use traditional African drumming and music as a tool to promote harmony and cultural understanding within the West Australian community.​ \n​Established back in 1996 by Kofi (Paul) Osei\, Akwaaba has been entertaining a wide variety of audiences for over 20 years with energetic\, powerful and interactive performances\, drum circles\, and workshops. Refer to Montessori’s definition of ‘obedience’ – not breaking someone’s will\, but rather the desire of an individual to cooperate with others. SUMMARY:60th Anniversary Student Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:Come and celebrate with us!\nTo mark our 60th anniversary\, our school is hosting a special party designed and led by our students. We will have food\, music and dancing\, games and activities\, a history activity\, and a cake cutting. \nEvent Proceedings\n\n3:00pm: Arrival\n3:00pm to 4:30pm: Celebrations\n4:30pm: Cake and Speech\n\nParents will need to collect their children as usual from their class\, and thereafter be responsible for them at this event. Staff will be in attendance but will not take direct responsibility for students. Some older students may be involved in coordinating food or activities. \nPlease be considerate of our neighbours when parking for the event – ensure you do not obstruct any driveways or park on verges and lawns. Parking in Montessori Place must be limited to available parking bays only\, do not park on the residential side of the street. \nWe look forward to sharing this special milestone with you!
