A Weekly Montessori Experience for Young Children

We are thrilled to announce the return of our Montessori Playgroup, now hosted on the School grounds in the refurbished Shammai Building.

Our playgroup is specifically designed for children from birth to three years old, a period of extraordinary development and curiosity. During these first years, children absorb everything around them. The Montessori environment supports this natural process through meaningful, hands-on exploration.

In our beautifully prepared 0–3 space, parents and caregivers attend alongside their child, learning how to observe, follow their child’s interests, and gently foster independence. Babies are provided with opportunities for movement, sensory engagement, and quiet connection, while toddlers explore purposeful activities that support concentration, coordination, language development, and practical life skills.

This is a calm, respectful environment where children can explore at their own pace and where adults gain insights into Montessori principles they can use at home. It’s also a wonderful way for families to build relationships and feel part of our school community from the very beginning.

• Support your child in building independence, curiosity, and confidence.

• Enjoy a morning of fun, learning and discovery in our carefully prepared environment.

Our Environment

Our playgroup environment is set up just like a Montessori classroom, with wooden shelves and carefully selected Montessori materials. Each activity is displayed at the child’s level to encourage independence and free choice.

Children are shown how to take a material from the shelf, use it respectfully and then return it to its place when they have finished. This simple routine supports order, concentration and responsibility, even in our youngest learners.

Child-size furniture allows even our youngest participants to move independently and comfortably within the space. Outdoors, children can enjoy opportunities to explore and move freely and connect with the natural environment in a calm and unhurried way.

Facilitator

Our Montessori Playgroup is facilitated by a qualified Montessori teacher who carefully prepares the environment, supports each child’s stage of development and guides parents and caregivers in understanding Montessori principles.

Details

The Montessori Playgroup runs on Friday mornings from 9.00am to 11.00am, following school drop-off. Sessions are held in the Shammai Building at The Montessori School Kingsley.

Parking

Parking on Montessori Place is limited, so we ask that you arrive close to the start time (9.00am) to allow the morning drop-off congestion to ease.

Safety

For the safety of our students, and in accordance with regulatory requirements, we ask that you come directly to the Shammai Building at the start of the session and leave the School grounds immediately after the session concludes. For security reasons, families are not permitted to walk through or access other areas of the School during Playgroup.

What to Bring

To help your child enjoy their Playgroup session comfortably and safely, please bring:

• A packed lunch (please ensure it contains no nuts, as we are a nut-aware school)
• A change of clothes
• Nappies, if required

Lunch will be eaten using plates and cutlery provided by the School, so there is no need to bring your own. High chairs are available for younger children, and we have changing facilities on site.

The session only has ten spots available, so enrol early to secure your child’s place!
