IB Students Excursion to the Bibbulmun Track on Friday, 20 October to Saturday, 21 October 2017
The Bibbulmun Track is one of WA’s iconic heritage sites, a walk trail that stretches from Kalamunda to Albany. The existence of the track would not be possible without the helping hands of many volunteers. Our IB Geography students have adopted a small section of the track (a 5km section about 120km south of Perth, near the intersection of Albany Highway and North Bannister Road).
This is a two day excursion, during which we will be conducting maintenance work on our adopted section (cutting vegetation, checking sign marking and condition of the track and the campsite) and then, time and weather permitting, walking on to Boonering Hill
This is a voluntary activity and forms part of a CAS project, so is also open to other IB and pre-IB students who do not take geography. Teacher accompanying the students will be Jaromir and 1 parent volunteer.
Date: Friday 20 October to Saturday 21 October 2017
Time: 1.00pm Friday 20 October to 6.00pm approx. Saturday 21 October 2017
Travel: School Bus
Detailed Itinerary: Leave the school on Friday at 1 pm. Upon arrival to the Bibbulmun Track, the students will walk to the Gringer Creek camp site where they will spend the night. In the morning the students will check and prune the track. Lunch will be purchased at the Bannister Road House. Shortly after the students will walk towards Boonering hill (weather permitting). Departure for Kingsley will be at 4 pm (arriving to our school at about 6 pm). However, an earlier arrival is possible should our maintenance task be completed sooner than anticipated.
Students to Bring: Tents (students to arrange), warm clothes and a warm sleeping bag for the night. Packed dinner and breakfast (for Saturday) and money for their (Saturday) lunch. Water- at least 3 litres and sunscreen. Water proof clothes and spare clothes should rain be forecast.
Secateurs and gardening gloves, hat, mosquito repellent, sturdy shoes for walking.
