October 17 is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. This event is to raise awareness of global poverty and show what we can do to help.
On Friday 16, October 2020, the students will have the same lunch as many millions of other children in the world – a bowl of rice. They will not bring their own lunch but will eat a bowl of rice cooked in their classroom. The money that would have been spent on their lunch (we suggest $2) is to be brought to school so that the students can collectively purchase assistance for poor communities in the world. In previous years the students have enjoyed participating in this event and the monies raised were spent on clean drinking water, mosquito nets, reforestation, goats etc or donated to the agencies working in areas of famine.
The students will need to bring their own bowl and a spoon on Friday 16 October.
Students will be able to eat as much rice as they wish, but as they will only eat rice at school on this day we suggest that they eat a substantial breakfast.
As always, we thank you for your support.
Please note, this is a school community event.
