Your Enrolment Journey

Discovering Montessori. Getting to know the School. Finding the right fit for your family.

The Montessori School Kingsley is an independent school for children aged 3 to 18 years. We provide a continuous Montessori education from our 3–6 environment through to Year 10, with students then continuing into either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) in Years 11 and 12.

Places are limited across our learning environments, so we encourage families to begin the enrolment journey early.

If you are considering Montessori for your child, we recommend getting in touch and submitting an application well before your child’s third birthday. This gives your family time to learn about Montessori education, visit the School and complete the enrolment process before your child is ready to start.

Most of our students begin in our 3–6 environment, usually at the beginning of the term following their third birthday. Planning ahead gives your family the best opportunity to secure a place at the time your child is ready to begin their Montessori journey.

02 | Observation

See Montessori learning in action.

We invite prospective families to experience a Montessori learning environment through a classroom observation.

Observation allows you to see students working independently, collaborating with others and engaging with their learning in a carefully prepared environment.

It also helps you develop a deeper understanding of what makes a Montessori classroom different.

The observation arrangements will depend on your child’s age and the learning environment they would be joining.

What to expect at an observation

Classroom observations are intentionally quiet and unobtrusive so that students can continue their learning without interruption.

We ask visitors to:

  • remain seated in the designated observation area;
  • avoid speaking to or interacting with students;
  • keep mobile phones switched off; and
  • refrain from taking photographs or recording.

Our educators will not be available to answer questions during the observation, as their focus remains on the students. We encourage you to discuss your questions with the School Office following your visit.

Optional: Join us for a Parent Discussion.

Want to understand Montessori more deeply?

A classroom visit can show you what Montessori looks like, but understanding why our classrooms work the way they do can take a little longer.

Our Parent Discussions provide prospective families with an opportunity to explore Montessori education in greater depth, learn about the principles behind our approach and ask questions about how Montessori supports children as they develop independence, confidence and responsibility.

Attendance is not required for enrolment, but we strongly encourage families who are new to Montessori to attend where possible.

A visit is one of the best ways to understand Montessori education.

Our Principal’s Tour allows prospective families to explore the School, see our learning environments and learn more about how Montessori education works from our leadership team.

It is also your opportunity to ask questions and begin to get a feel for our community.

The interview helps both your family and the School understand whether our Montessori approach and learning environment are the right match for your child.

08 | Start

Your child’s Montessori journey begins.

Before your child’s first day, we will provide information to help your family become familiar with their new learning environment and what to expect.

Starting at a new school is a significant milestone. Our educators understand that every child is different and will support your child as they become familiar with their environment, develop relationships and establish their place within the community.

From the beginning, Montessori education encourages children to develop independence, confidence and a sense of responsibility for their own learning.

We look forward to welcoming your family to The Montessori School Kingsley.

Welcome to the School.

Enrolling at Different Stages

Montessori education from 3 to 18 years

Our school provides a continuous Montessori education from early childhood through to the end of secondary school.

Starting at age three gives children the opportunity to experience Montessori from the beginning of their educational journey. During these early years, children develop the independence, concentration, confidence and practical skills that form the foundations for their future learning. They become familiar with the Montessori environment, its routines and expectations, and learn to take increasing responsibility for themselves and their community.

While many of our students begin their Montessori journey in the early years, families also join the School at different stages of their child’s education. Students entering at an older age may come from a range of educational backgrounds and experiences. We take the time to understand each student’s previous experience and individual circumstances and support them as they become familiar with the Montessori approach. The transition can take time as students develop an understanding of Montessori’s emphasis on independence, responsibility and active participation in their learning.

Important information for Pre-Primary Families

New Immunisation requirements for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children:

Effective from 22 July 2019, changes to the Public Health Act 2016 (WA) and the School Education Act 1999 (WA) mean that persons in charge of child care services, community kindergartens and schools have legal responsibilities in relation to the immunisation status of children.

The School is now required to enrol only children:

  • Whose AIR Immunisation History Statement is dated no more than two months old and is ‘up to date’.
  • Who are following an approved catch-up schedule as indicated on the child’s AIR Immunisation History Form that is dated no more than six months old.
  • Who have a valid immunisation certificate issued or declared by the Chief Health Officer.

The above restrictions won’t apply if the child is exempt because of a particular family circumstance.
