Answers to help you decide if Montessori is right for your family.

Choosing the right school is an important decision, and we know you may have questions about what makes Montessori education unique, and how it works at our school. We’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions families ask when considering enrolling at The Montessori School Kingsley. If there’s anything else you’d like to know, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Montessori education is a child-centred approach that nurtures each student’s natural curiosity and love of learning. Developed by Dr Maria Montessori, it encourages independence, self-discipline, and respect, using hands-on materials and mixed-age classrooms.

Our school follows the Montessori method, which means we focus on the individual needs and interests of each child. Instead of standardised testing and a rigid curriculum, students learn through exploration, collaboration, and real-world experiences in a prepared environment.

We welcome children from age 3 through to 18. This includes Pre-Primary to Year 10, followed by two options for Years 11 and 12: the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP), allowing students to pursue academic or vocational pathways.

Yes, children can join our school without prior Montessori experience. However, having a Montessori background is a notable advantage as it helps students adapt more easily to the independence and structure of our environment. We work closely with each child and their family to ensure a smooth and supported transition, regardless of their previous educational background.

Assessment in Montessori education is based on observation, student self-reflection, and regular progress meetings. Our teachers carefully track each child’s development, ensuring they are supported and challenged at the right time. From Upper Secondary, we follow the requirements of the IB Diploma Programme, which includes formal assessments.

Montessori education works best when there is a strong partnership between school and home. It’s important that parents are committed to understanding and supporting the Montessori philosophy, as consistency between environments helps children thrive. We offer regular communication, parent education events, and opportunities for families to actively engage in their child’s learning journey.

While Montessori education benefits a wide range of learners, it is especially suited to children who thrive in environments that offer freedom within structure, foster independence, and encourage self-motivation. We are always happy to discuss your child’s individual needs with you.
