Parent Discussion Nights

Understand concepts and discuss ideas.

Each term, we hold parent discussion nights, which are short talks given on some aspect of Montessori education or philosophy, followed by a discussion among staff and parents.

We encourage current parents at the school as well as families considering our school to attend these meetings to hear the talk, ask questions, and meet with other parents and teachers.

Our discussion nights follow a two-year cycle, with pre-determined subjects:

Year 1

  • Term 1: Discipline
  • Term 2: Planes of Development
  • Term 3: Motivation

Year 2

  • Term 1: Freedom
  • Term 2: Mathematics
  • Term 3: Assessment

These discussion nights have a brief overview of the topic and then a talk from each of the relevant sections (pre-primary, lower primary, upper primary, lower secondary, as well as the International Baccalaureate. Doing so will enable parents to attend relevant get a chance to every two years so that we can be sure we are communicating the importance and significance of these principles with our families.

Classroom Observations

Observing the child is at the heart of Montessori education; as such, we welcome visitors to observe in our pre-primary, lower primary, upper primary, and lower secondary classrooms.

Observations Rules

To have a good view of the natural activities and atmosphere, and to maintain the normal routines and procedures, we ask you to be as unobtrusive and as inconspicuous as possible.

While observing, please adhere to the following rules:

  • Remain seated in the chair provided;
  • Do not engage the children in conversations;
  • Remember that any child’s behaviour may be a reaction to your presence in the room, and this is particularly true of your own child;
  • Mobile telephones must be turned off during your time in the room (i.e. no phone calls, no messaging, no checking emails, no taking photos).

Staff are not available for discussion during observation sessions, so please record any questions and ask the School Office at the end of your session.

Principal’s Tour

Every other Wednesday, our Acting Co-Principals take families around our school to give them a sense of what happens at our school while it’s happening. Tours usually last about two hours and you’ll get plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Let us leave the life free to develop within the limits of the good, and let us observe this inner life developing. This is the whole of our mission.”

– Dr Maria Montessori
