Breaking Down Projects Into Manageable Tasks

Within our school’s governance structure, the Board maintains responsibility for strategic direction, not day-to-day operations. To support its work, the Board oversees several sub-committees that focus on specific strategic areas.

These sub-committees assist the Board by researching issues, gathering feedback, and providing informed advice and recommendations. They also provide progress updates at Board meetings. While the sub-committees play an important advisory role, the final decision-making authority remains with the Board.

To ensure projects aligned with the School’s strategic priorities progress effectively, it is helpful to break them down into manageable tasks. This approach improves organisation, supports better use of resources, and strengthens project execution. Dividing complex projects into smaller components also enhances collaboration, enables clearer tracking of progress, and supports timely completion.

We take the approach: “Many hands make light work.” – John Heywood

Bushland Sub-Committee

Our school’s bushland is a unique ecosystem with over 100 native flora species. The sub-committee’s primary responsibility is to preserve, conserve, and restore this precious bushland. It ensures that the annual weed control program is implemented and that firebreaks are cleared each year.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Encouraging biological diversity and ecological integrity of the bushland.
  • Utilising the bushland for educational, spiritual, cultural, and ethical purposes.
  • Recognising and promote the intrinsic value of the bushland.
  • Maintaining the bushland for the wellbeing of the local community.

Sub-committee members work closely with teachers to engage students in hands-on activities like seed collection and planting, fostering environmental stewardship and community impact.

Grants

Our School has been selected for a grant for 2026/2027 from the State Natural Resources Management Program at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The grant will assist in developing a weed survey and management program for the school’s bushland, which will help guide the school’s bushland conservation activities for years to come.

During 2024 and 2025, our School and the surrounding community benefited from a City of Joondalup grant to support educational programs for bushland seed collection and for a revegetation program in areas of the School grounds that have been disturbed by the recent construction of our School’s new Secondary building.
